As our Quality Procurement Assistant, Felix is one of the people who keeps SmartPads homes moving smoothly through the build process. From picking up lumber and materials to confirming measurements and ensuring every component meets our standards, he’s constantly in motion—literally. Felix is the person making sure our teams have what they need when they need it, and that the materials going into each home are straight, sound, and built for longevity. His role blends precision with teamwork, and his eye for detail ensures every module is built right from the start.

Meet Felix
I'm from Long Beach, California and moved to Vernal, Utah two years ago. My wife and I were ready for a change. My wife is really into paranormal stuff, and one night while we were watching a show during Alien Week on the Discovery Channel—an episode about Skinwalker Ranch—we heard about Vernal. (Fun fact: Utah gets a lot of attention for alien activity! The Uinta Basin around Vernal is even nicknamed ‘UFO Alley’ because of decades of strange lights, UFO reports, and other weird phenomena.) Two weeks later, my wife found a home, and we decided to make the move.
We just had our first baby, a boy—our first and last! It's been fun so far. He joins our family of pets, including a 16-year-old Sulcata tortoise named Silky. I got her from PetSmart when she was the size of a quarter. Five tank upgrades (in 6 months) later, we took her to a vet and learned her species is the third-largest tortoise in the world. I felt a little bamboozled, thinking I was just getting "tank tortoise". Now she weighs more than 300 pounds and has her own barn.
Q: How do you like to spend your weekends?
I love spending time in the mountains with my four dogs—camping, relaxing, having bonfires, and just enjoying the outdoors.
Q: What is your favorite place to eat out in Vernal?
El Homiez Taco, a local taco stand. They close for the winter, so it’s always sad to wait until they reopen in the summer.
Q: What part of your job is the most fun?
Interacting with all my coworkers. I like seeing how everyone’s day is going—whether they’re up or down—and helping everyone do their job that day in the shop.
Q: How do you bring value to SmartPads customers?
I make sure everything is set up right for them. Everything I pick up or bring in has to be quality and be 100% to our standards. Straight lumber, proper materials—if something’s off, it affects the whole home, so I take that seriously.
Q: What do you feel has the biggest impact on the look and feel of a home?
Comfort - the warmth you feel when you walk in the door and know it’s yours.
Q: What makes SmartPads design different?
We work directly with the customer so they get exactly what they want. These homes are custom. It's like when you were building sandcastles at the beach as a kid, and were building it just how you wanted it. We’re doing that - just at a whole different level!
Q: What advice would help potential SmartPads homeowners as they begin the design process?
Attention to detail. Having your mind set on what you want really helps. I know that’s asking a lot, but standing by what you want makes it easier for us to build your dream home. Things get rushed when people change their minds, so staying clear on your vision keeps the process smooth.
